See What You Want. Quicker

The list of fixtures on our web site has grown significantly in recent years meaning more scrolling to find what you are looking for. To speed things up, a new 'Competitions & Events' filter has been added so you only see what you want especially when combined with the Teams and Venues filters. This will be particularly welcome for those playing in the Winter League that kicked off yesterday - no more scrolling past all the Summer league fixtures 😀
And a quick reminder that the 'Go Today' button underneath the filters will take you straight to the nearest next/previous fixtures.

New(-ish) Fixture Grid

This is a fixture grid, a simple and quick way to view league competition fixtures that can also be printed onto a single A4 sheet. It has been available for a couple of years on our web site Fixtures page but it's unlikely you have seen it unless you looked at some pre-COVID seasons and curiously clicked the extra 'Grid' button.
Grid View can only be seen if a league competition has the normal two legs - each team plays one match at home and one away. Since COVID we have had insufficient teams to fill a season (Summer or Winter) with enough fixtures so we have been playing with three legs - home, away and random. That is until now! Thanks in large part to some new player recruitment by Sue Noades, the 2025-6 Winter League has enough teams to revert to the normal two legs and so the fixture grid is available. Go to the Fixtures page and look for yourself.

2025-6 Winter League Incoming!

This is a group photo of the team captains for the new Winter League starting on Sunday 26th October and running through until mid March.
It is fantastic that we have a lot of new players resulting in six teams this season, two more than last. So encouraging! Team information can be found on the Information page.
Match venues are The Anchor (Little Paxton), The Barley Mow (Eaton Socon) and The Bell (Great Paxton). This is a first winter season for The Bell and hopefully the weather is kind to us and leave the water off the piste!

New Chairman (Designate)

I am pleased to announce that Sue Noades has “volunteered” to take over the Chairman role from David Sellick and run the 2025-6 Winter League. I have to say that Sue was a bit “press ganged” into the job as nobody wanted to do it. It was all very familiar to me as that is exactly how I “reluctantly” became Chairman back in 2016. Anyway, I’m certain Sue will do a great job. Please give her every support you can.

Dave will be staying on until the AGM next year but I would now like to sincerely thank him for his commitment and dedication over the last three seasons ensuring continuation of the league in a difficult post-COVID time and creating the Winter League which is about to enter its third season.

Pheads belatedly presented with their 2024 Winter League Winners trophy.

2025 Triples Knockout Winners

Alison Lesley Owen, Neil Stubbs and Phil Wayles lift the Triples Knockout winners trophy last won by the Crown team in 2017, 2018 and 2019

2025 Doubles Knockout Winners

Matt Warren and Mark Underwood lift the Doubles Knockout trophy for the second consecutive year by beating Phil Wayles and Jody Arch (Crown) in the final match.

2025 Singles Knockout Winner

Neil Stubbs of the Crown team took the Singles Knockout trophy back home where it has been residing since he won it last year.

2025 Captain's Cup Winner

Knockout competition runner up, Phil Sargeant, presented the Captain's Cup to Chairman Dave Sellick.

2025 Past Players Memorial Trophy Winners

The Anchor team knocked out last year's trophy holders North Anchor (now North Buckden Badgers) in a 6-3 final.

2025 Summer League Runners Up

Brenda's Crown team again take second place in the Summer League repeating their 93 point score of last year.

North Buckden Badgers (previously North Anchor) win the Summer League for the third consecutive year. Well done to Mark Underwood and his team!

Winter League Planning

If you are interested in playing in a winter league on Sunday afternoons please come along to the Bell, Great Paxton on Wednesday October 8th 7:30pm where we hope to decide teams, venues and match format.

Postponed Fixture

The August 20th fixture between the Crown and Bell Ringers has been postponed until September 3rd. Please note the venue is now the Barley Mow (tbc).

2025 Doubles Finalists

Congratulations to Jody Arch & Phil Wayles (Crown) and Mark Underwood & Matt Warren (North Buckden Badgers) who have won through to finals night after winning their respective venue Doubles Knockout competitions last night.

2025 Singles Finalists

Congratulations to Alex Warren (North Buckden Badgers), Matt Smith (Anchor), Neil Stubbs (Crown) and Phil Sargeant (Barley Mow) who go through to finals night on 24th September having seen off strong opposition in the Singles Competition at the two venues last night.

2025 Summer League Fixtures Now Live

The new season fixtures are now on the web site. Sorry for how late they are but we tried hard to create a seventh team and almost got there but, in the end, we didn't quite have enough new players. Also, the North Anchor team will be based at a new venue - the Vine in Buckden - playing as the North Buckden Badgers. This took longer than expected to organise.
So, thank you for bearing with us whilst we sorted out these things! Enjoy a summer of petanque.

2025 Summer Season Start

We have still to finalise the teams and fixtures for the upcoming summer season but the start dates are fixed. The first league matches will take place on Wednesday April 23rd preceded by two open practice sessions so players can throw some boules ahead of the competitive games. We look forward to seeing you all then.

New Rules For 2025

A number of rule revisions were agreed at the AGM which take effect from this season. It is important that all players familiarise themselves with these changes, in particular the significant revision to when a boule is out of bounds and when it is still in play.

2024 Winter League Winners

Congratulations to team Pheads (Matt, Alex, Sue, Dale and Bob) on winning this year's winter league. It's been very competitive, but good fun. More people should give it a try.

2025 Annual General Meeting

Hi, it's that time of year again when we need to start looking forward to the new summer season. To that end, the AGM will be held on 5th March 2025 at the Barley Mow, starting at 7.30pm. Anyone wishing to join a team can come along and be introduced to the relevant team captains. Hopefully, we will have the same teams as last year, though there may be some changes. If anyone has something they wish to raise at the meeting then feel free to contact Dave Sellick ahead of time.
Dave is happy to stand as Chairman again this year but if anyone else would like the role, feel free to put yourself forward and he will happily stand aside. We look forward to seeing you all again on the 5th.
